"Cwah I like the dark green ones m8!"

In the opening of the text message, the colloquial "cwah" is used. This is a very informal and casual, and infers that this type of message was sent to a friend or someone close. It reinforces the informal nature of the conversation. Furthermore, the number homophone "m8" is used at the end of the text message to further show this friendly and "matey" relationship between the participants. The use of "m8" instead of "mate" shows a socialect between the two and shows how texting naturally abbreviates words, further implying that this relationship is very casual and friendly, which means there's no real need to be formal and academic.

As said in Jon McWhorter's TED talk about texting and how language is slowly evolving, the linguistic techniques used in this text message example refer back to what he said. Language and writing has changed so much over time, and because people are now "writing how they speak", the languages around the world are naturally becoming more informal.
